GE'EZ ALPHABET
The Alphabets of Ge’ez Language are generally 30. of which 26 consonants that has marked for 7 different vowels, and other 4 Labiovelar consonants that are marked for 5 different vowels.
In Amharic, there are 7 others added Alphabets, those are with slight change of shape of the original Ge’ez Alphabets.
So there are 182 signs of 26 consonants which are marked for 7 different vowels and 20 Labiovelar of 4 consonants that are marked for 5 different vowels in Ge’ez Alphabets. but Amharic has other added 49 signs of 7 consonants that are marked for 7 different vowels.
there are Letters which has different shapes but shared the same voices.
- Three First Order Letters of ሀ ሐ and ኀ has the same voice of “ ha “
- Two First Order Letters of አ and ዐ has the same voice of ” a ” .
- Two First Order Letters of ጸ and ፀ has the same voice of ” şa “
- Two First Order Letters of ሰ and ሠ has the same voice of “sa “.
- When You experience Ge’ez Language , You will use those Letters into their own word .
- Even if each Letter has the same voice, it is not appropriate to use them in every word which has the same voice. it may cause the problem of translation of the word.
